Noah’s Ark
Today, my family and I, got to goto the “Ark Encounter” a true-to-size Ark recreation in northern Kentucky. I was super impressed!
I read Noah’s story in Genesis this morning before going and I was amazed with the accuracy this recreation really has. The Bible is very detailed with the outside measurements, but unfortunately lacks details on the inner workings. The Ark Encounter used this as an opportunity to exercise some creative liberties. This made the inside tour of the 3 storied boat a fun adventure.
Part museum, part movie theater, part zoo? This place has it all. We learned how Noah and his family grew food, created self sustaining systems, how they got water from the rain runoff, how they got rid of waste, even how they spent their time relaxing after a busy day. This museum thought of it all and painted a great picture of how it all could have looked.
The most interesting parts for me were seeing the way the animals were theoretically housed. With feeding troths, watering cisterns, slated grates that the droppings fell down into a drain for easy clean up. Keeping smaller creatures in vases, covered with mesh burlap, able to be watered through the cloth. Connected by tube to a larger box with breeding moths, once the box filled up they would naturally make their way into the next space to be eaten by some reptile. To read the story lacking these details trying to picture what it could have been like in my head, to seeing a real life version of how it could have all operated was night and day. It felt very similar to experiencing Israel. Being able to physically walk through the stories I’ve read time and time again, make the stories come to life.
The museum was also filled with history of the world and even life like animatronics. Noah and his family were wax figures that could talk to you, the animals were also super realistic looking in their cages. All the visuals without the stench of real animals! One strange aspect of this place was the amount of dinosaurs! So so so many Dino’s in cages, it was kinda weird. The theory was that every “kind” of animal was in the boat. So not every breed of, let’s say, dog, but just the ancestor of what would become the Wolf, Dog, Fox, ECT. Make since to me, we see that form of evolution in our lifetime, I can only imagine what it could look like within 1,000s of years. I guess all the dinosaurs turned into lizards or chickens. Beats me. Still don’t know what to think about that one.
The history of the world aspect of this was very fun for me. It’s hard to find really good, respected literature on the timeline of the world that aline’s with the Bible, outside of the Bible. So I thoroughly enjoyed seeing the side by side comparison of the “world”/ “scientific” vs “Biblical” view of the history of the world. I’m not an expert on anything and nobody knows the whole truth of history, but I believe the 6,000+ year model of mankind makes much more sense than the millions of years. We are created divinely and Adam was made with the same intellectual, spiritual, and physical abilities as man today. If humans can build the Ark now they could have done it in the past. We heavily underestimate the ability of our ancestors.
Unfortunately my Nana and father could not join us to see this due to a last minute change in travel plans. Thank you Nana for the tickets, we all enjoyed it very much. I look forward to bringing my kids one day. It will be a great field trip for them. 10/10 would recommend.
