Cross-Country Road Trip Day 2

There’s this famous quote that a wise man once said: “Life’s too short to not drive hundreds of miles down a highway to sleep in your car in a Walmart parking lot”

This quote has never ringed more true in my life as it does tonight. I lay here in my makeshift bed I’ve made in my car, after peeing in a bottle, really just livin the new American dream. To have the freedom LIKE a homeless man, but not actually be one.

No, for real, today was a great day. I was supposed to be in New Orleans tonight, but my plans changed when my buddy Armani called me informing me his wedding photographer dropped out on him… with 2 days notice! He asked if I could fill in his place and of course I obliged. I stayed in Jacksonville last night, woke up and did a Bible study down by a lake. I really am being intentional on keeping up the good habits even on the fast paced lifestyle of the road. Bible study, gym, supplements and shake. My goal is to have fun on this trip without sacrificing my health, physically or spiritually. Keeping the convictions strong even thousands miles away from my church community.

I then linked up with my cousin Mallory who lives in Jacksonville. We ate french toast at a lovely breakfast place called “Southern Grounds & Co”. Then we went exploring the quaint, and surprisingly up-and-coming, riverside area of Jacksonville. Made me appreciate this town so much more. I used to come to Jacksonville as a kid multiple times a year to see her and I wasn’t a big fan. As my mom would put it, they lived on the “wrong side of the tracks”. There is in fact another side of the train tracks and it IS better. We found our way to a really cool vintage antique shop, in 5 points, where we saw taxidermy animals playing a variety of instruments, clothing, jewelry and so much more cool and borderline disturbing stuff. In a good way tho. Decent prices too. I got her some new shades and a classy knit green sweater.

After this, it was time for Armani and Jaden’s wedding. It was beautiful, in a big Cathedral downtown. They are a gorgeous couple and I have no doubts they will have a great marriage and life together. What I love most about this gig is that I won’t have to edit any pictures or videos, because Armani also works in the field of video/photography so i just gave him everything I shot and he will do the rest! My favorite kind of job.

Now, after a very quick 5 hour drive, I lay my head down in a Walmart parking lot here in Columbus GA. Did y’all know Walmarts, nationwide, it’s totally legal and acceptable to park your car and sleep in their parking lots? Google it, it’s real. Tons of RVs here at night. 10/10 would recommend. Saves money on a hotel bed PLUS you get to see all the wack, probably crack ridden, characters wandering around here at midnight out of your, double-triple checked, locked car window.

I’m going to sleep now! Hope you enjoyed the update! California here I come!
