Cross-Country Road Trip Day 5
15 hours from Austin, Texas to Goodyear, Arizona. The plan was to sleep somewhere along the way, but at the half way point I was so full of energy and had no pain so I figured I might as well make it the whole way!
This trip was not so eventful, but very fun. I was pleasantly surprised because I don’t remember Texas being so hilly and having actual mountain views. Small mountains, but Florida is so flat any mountain range can make me happy at this point.
I decided to listen to every single new song that’s come out on the Spotify “new music Friday” playlist. I only liked 5 of them. Out of about 100 songs. I listen to a lot of new music to keep up with the times and see which artist are still making art. Most of it is absolute trash. The couples songs I liked were called:
“Separate Ways” - by Eyedress,
“Rummage” - by quannnic,
“Heartbeat Highway” - by Cannons
Then I actually enjoyed these couple of rap songs too:
“Never Change” - by BJ The Chicago Kid & Philip Bailey
“Chanel Pit” - by Tierra Whack
After about 5 hours of listening to new music, I arrived in El Paso. I was told to drive right through this area because of the border issues going on right now. People telling me not to stop actually had a bit of an opposite effect on me. I was curious what was going on. I stopped to get gas and everything was finnnneee. I drove around El Paso and it was interesting to be downtown and being able to look over the border. The difference between America architecture vs Mexicos was vast. The roads over here are grids, over there seems like someone threw spaghetti on a map and said “build that”. Mexicos buildings were smaller, layered on top of each other, and colorful. Beautiful in a chaotic way. Americas was a bit more of that desert vibe. Lots of natural tones and spread out.
Another part of this drive was I was driving within a couple miles from the border wall for over a 100 miles. Don’t judge me…. But I am fascinated with this wall. It was such a point of contention for our nation for years, but it is built and real. I think it’s very cool. It’s no Great Wall of China, but I like how you can see right through it facing head on, but not if you’re looking down it. It’s cost effective, tall, and environmentally friendly. Animals can get through it, but people can’t. It’s ideal. I found a dirt road to drive down and got right up on it! I actually got to touch it. It felt like visiting a national monument. I got way too excited for no reason.
From 5AM ,through a time change going back an hour, arriving at 10PM it was a successful trip. Now I’m at Uncle Ron and Aunt Nancy’s house. I thank Yahweh for His mighty hand of protection over my vehicle for, in my mind, it is only by His grace I can travel so much without any car troubles or accidents. Continue to keep me in your prayers as I traverse this great nation.
There’s a quote from an Ancient Greek philosopher that goes like: “Life moves fast, if you don’t stop and look around every once and a while you might miss it”
Wait I think that’s Ferris Bueller. Ah, practically the same thing!
